Another great article about how Acupuncture is becoming more “mainstream” in Wisconsin and its growth as a preferred supplement medical treatment.

Acupuncture becoming more “Mainstream”.

Green Bay resident Tami Wessley has been receiving weekly acupuncture treatment since November at Agapes Acupuncture, 2020 Riverside Drive, Allouez. She suffered a traumatic brain injury five years ago that left her with terrible migraines and said she has tried other ways to relieve them.

“I literally tried everything else,” she said. “I’ve been to specialists, countless neurologists. I’ve done it all.”

Fighting a fear of needles, Wessley said she thought she’d give acupuncture a try.

“I didn’t hold out a lot of hope that it was going to work,” she said, “but it has been amazing.”

Acupuncture needles are just 0.2 millimeters, so a patient barely feels them, said Dr. Carl “Patch” Poley, owner of Agapes Acupuncture.

Acupuncture to treat addiction?

March 24th, 2008

Here’s an interesting article about how Acupuncture is being used to treat addiction in a pilot program.

Acupuncture Treating Addiction

“This is addiction treatment, Montgomery County style. These people are participating in a pilot program that uses acupuncture, an ancient Chinese medical practice, to help treat addiction. More than a dozen people a day are volunteering to be stuck with needles as part of the county’s acudetox program, which began last month and is one of a handful in the Washington region.

Karlys Wright, 37, was one of the first to arrive for the early morning acudetox session. She said she almost didn’t give acupuncture a try because she doesn’t like needles. But in a brief time, she has become a fan of the New Age treatment.

“I feel rejuvenated,” the former administrative assistant from Rockville said. “I don’t know how to explain it.”"

Acupuncture is often a better treatment option for neck pain

February 18th, 2008

“A new study says that Acupuncture can prove to be a better option for healing the most common neck pain, as compared to many current therapies available.

The international study, conducted by Canadian, American, South American, Australasian and European researchers, revealed that alternative therapies such as acupuncture, neck manipulation and massage can be better options for treating neck pain than the existing practices.

Neck pain is not a trivial condition for many people, said Task Force president Dr. Scott Haldeman, clinical professor, department of neurology at the University of California, Irvine; and adjunct professor, department of epidemiology University of California Los Angeles. It can be associated with headaches, arm and upper back pain and depression. Whether it arises from sports injuries, car collisions, workplace issues or stress, it can be incapacitating. The study found that neck pain was a persistent and recurrent condition for the majority of sufferers and affected their ability to carry on with daily activities.”
